宮崎を満喫した後、桜島と知覧を経由して今宵の宿である指宿白水館を目指す。
有名な大箱の宿だ。
大箱か、こじんまりした宿か、どちらが好きと言えば後者だが、大箱だと大きな風呂、立派な庭園、便利で種類豊富な土産店などを比較的リーズナブルに利用することがメリットかと思う。
特にここは指宿ならではの砂風呂も館内で気軽に楽しめる。
さてさて食事は大箱宿の大部屋ながらも区切りのしっかりした席でゆっくりできた。
自分は部屋の食事よりも食事専用の個室で食べることができるタイプが好きなので嬉しい側。
テーブルに置かれたお品書きを見るとワクワクする。
薩摩料理が一杯だ。
何より高千穂牛、みやざき地頭鶏と来て「かごしま黒豚」である。
後は馬だな。
前菜、吸物「土瓶蒸し」は薩摩料理とは関係ないかな?
それでも前菜は渋めが多種。
土瓶蒸しは期待以上に立派な松茸で香り豊か。
大好きなスーパードライ中瓶935円は速攻で空く。
高くついたけれど続く竹鶴ハイボール1,100円+220円が激ウマ。
ここ最近で最高のハイボールだ。
お造り「四種盛り」は海老、鯛、鮪&雲丹、鳥貝。
見た目光る刺身達は新鮮そのもの。
こんなに旨い鳥貝は何時以来か。雲丹が乗った鮪ってのも合うもんだ。
そしてお待ちかねの炊合「黒豚の角煮」からの強肴「黒豚のしゃぶしゃぶ」だ。
角煮の器はかわいかった。
それでも角煮よりしゃぶしゃぶがやはり絶品。綺麗なピンク&白色だ。
脂もたっぷりあるのだけれど全くしつこくなく美味しい甘み。
合わせるのは下手をすると苦手な胡麻だれなのだが、甘みを主張も控えめで黒豚を活かしまくっていた。
この時には日本酒へ切り替え済み。
芋焼酎は苦手なので薩州正宗1,320円で薩摩の雰囲気を楽しむ。
嫁さんは迷った末にデコポンソーダ660円を満足そうに飲んでいた。
焼物はたるめ朴葉焼。たるめはメダイのことらしい。はじかみは葉生姜。
馴染のない名前に触れるのも旅行の気分を盛り上げる。
合肴は灰汁巻きで、これも郷土料理。もち米を竹などを燃やした灰からとった灰汁に浸して孟宗竹の皮で包んでつくるらしい。
餅米は大好きだし独特な匂いがクセになる。
揚げ物は芋天とガネ天。同じく鹿児島の郷土料理。
ガネは九州地方の方言で蟹のことで蟹の足に見えることからついていると毎回親切な給仕の女性が教えてくれた。こちらもサツマイモだ。
給仕の方には東南アジア系の方もいて、若干会話に困る場面もあったが、皆さん明るく素早い。
〆にはとどめの止椀「薩摩汁」と御飯「鹿児島県産米」、香の物盛り合せ。
徹底している。
アイスもマロンゴールドで滑らかな甘さ。嫁さんが気に入ったようだ。
温泉宿としてだけではなく夕食を楽しむにもいい。
朝食は種類が豊富なのは良かったがバイキングは好きではないのが玉に瑕。
指宿に来るなら、また来てしまうかな。
