Born in Kagoshima Prefecture. At the age of 17, he moved to Osaka to become a chef, working as a servant during the day and attending Tsuji Culinary School at night. Joined Hotel Shin-Osaka at the age of 18. From the next year, I went to the Oriental Hotel in Australia for a year and a half. After returning to Japan, he studied under Mr. Fujio Shido at Ginza [Shiki] for three years. He served as a chef at ``Coco Palms'' and ``Western Restaurant John Kanaya Azabu'' in Aoyama, and in 1980 opened Minami Aoyama [La Rochelle] as owner-chef. He became famous through the TV show "Iron Chef".
